Switch seamlessly between Blender and VR
Freebird adds VR-based editing capabilities to Blender.
This means that you can continue using the Blender desktop interface, and switch to VR only when you need to. Some tasks are better performed on the desktop, and some tasks are better performed in VR.
Freebird works directly inside Blender, so you work directly on your Blender projects in VR. You don't need to switch to a different software, or export/import models between Blender and an external software.
You can also continue to use all the Blender add-ons and workflows that you love.
Install Freebird as an add-on
Please follow the Getting Started guide to install Freebird as an add-on for Blender.
Start VR (when you need to)
Click Start VR
to enter the VR mode, and Stop VR
to stop it.
Continue using Blender desktop
You can continue using the desktop interface of Blender, even while the VR mode is running.
Changes made in the VR mode will immediately show up in the desktop interface, and vice versa.
Use keyboard and mouse in VR
Enable the Sync headset with desktop viewport setting to synchronize the VR headset and Blender's desktop view.
This allows you to use the keyboard/mouse to navigate in VR, and vice-versa, to use the VR controllers to change the view in the desktop window.
This also allows you to see the mouse cursor while inside VR, and to sculpt using an external tablet.
Use screencasting to share your ideas
You can screencast what you're seeing inside the VR headset, using the Screencast VR View setting. The view inside your VR headset will be displayed in the main Blender window on the desktop.
This is useful to show other people what you're working on and communicate your ideas.
