Detailed changelog

  • 2.1.3 - 31 Jul 2025 - Fix weirdly resizing bones in Rigify rigs, that shrunk when moved. For e.g. the upper_arm_ik.L arrow bone in a Rigify rig.
  • 2.1.2 - 7 Jul 2025 - Mode-specific transform. You can now move without rotating/resizing, or rotate without moving/resizing, or resize without moving/rotating. Select the Move/Rotate/Resize option in the menu, and grab the selection.
  • 2.1.2 - 7 Jul 2025 - Lots of reliability fixes, to reduce crashes while using Freebird.
  • 2.1.1 - 25 Jun 2025 - Show gizmos for transforming selections along specific planes.
  • 2.1.0 - 23 Jun 2025 - Re-enable 'Free Extrude', which allows you to drag elements to extrude them in any direction (instead of having to use the extrude handle).
  • 2.0.30 - 19 Jun 2025 - Fix a bug where undo events wouldn't get created (occasionally) when resizing selections with both hands.
  • 2.0.29 - 11 Jun 2025 - Fix a bug where custom bone shapes with Bezier curves wouldn't be selectable.
  • 2.0.28 - 10 Jun 2025 - Fix a crash with mirrored strokes. It would crash if a mirrored stroke was drawn after undoing the first mirrored stroke.
  • 2.0.27 - 3 Feb 2025 - Fix a crash where deleting the active object would prevent other objects from being grabbed and moved.
  • 2.0.26 - 28 Jan 2025 - Allow scaling the radius of curve points in EDIT mode (using two-handed scale). Thanks szabolego for suggesting the code change on Discord!
  • 2.0.25 - 13 Jan 2025 - Skip bone collection/layer check if the armature has no collections.
  • 2.0.24 - 1 Jan 2025 - Temporarily rollback 'Free Extrude', and replace it with regular Extrude. I'm looking into the bug where Free Extrude isn't working correctly, please use regular Extrude until then.
  • 2.0.23 - 13 Nov 2024 - Fix a bug where workspaces without a tab named 'Layout' would fail to work. Also fix occasional crashes while moving edit mesh elements (due to invalid BMVert/BMEdge/BMFace references).
  • 2.0.22 - 28 Oct 2024 - Ignore intersection if the bones are in hidden bone layers/collections.
  • 2.0.21 - 28 Oct 2024 - First version of the desktop viewer. This lets you see your desktop screen while working in VR. Useful to use Blender's desktop tools without needing to take your headset off.
  • 2.0.20 - 28 Oct 2024 - Don't change the scene's shading type upon starting Freebird.
  • 2.0.20 - 28 Oct 2024 - Keep the main menu and info box closed across restarts, if the user has closed them in the past.

  • 2.0.17 - 15 Jul 2024 - Adjust the behavior of solid bone display - don't force it unless we're using custom bone shapes, and revert to the original bone display type after switching back to OBJECT mode.
  • 2.0.16 - 13 Jul 2024 - Mirror shape objects.
  • 2.0.15 - 12 Jul 2024 - Initial implementation of mirroring for strokes and hull.
  • 2.0.14 - 9 Jul 2024 - Move between animation frames using the main joystick, and insert new keyframes using the main A button. To enable this, enable Keyframe from the main menu.
  • 2.0.13 - 8 Jul 2024 - Added an option to make faces from selected vertices/edges in the Mesh Edit mode.
  • 2.0.12 - 8 Jul 2024 - Free extrude by moving the vertices/edges/faces instead of using the extrude lever (that only moves in one direction).
  • 2.0.11 - 27 Jun 2024 - Fix the rendering and performance of custom bone shapes.
  • 2.0.10 - 27 Jun 2024 - Improve overall performance (especially in large scenes, with lots of objects) by being more selective about when controller intersection checks are performed.
  • 2.0.9 - 25 Jun 2024 - Transform gizmos, to allow moving/rotating/scaling the selection along specific axes.
  • 2.0.8 - 17 Jun 2024 - Allow grabbing custom bone shapes (e.g. rigify rigs).
  • 2.0.7 - 18 Apr 2024 - An option to lock the position of Pose Bones (in Freebird Settings).
  • 2.0.7 - 1 Apr 2024 - Bugfix - the Erase tool was crashing with Blender 4.1.
  • 2.0.7 - 22 Mar 2024 - Don't show wire outlines of hidden pose bones.
  • 2.0.7 - 15 Mar 2024 - Preserve cursor size per tool. Thanks @Andrekling for the suggestion!
  • 2.0.7 - 14 Mar 2024 - Prototype for testing the use of the trigger button for grabbing and moving items. You can press the A button on the alternate controller to temporarily enable the Select tool, to allow grabbing and moving objects while working with a different tool. You can choose the button used for grabbing from Freebird Settings > Grab Button. Thanks @MichaelKnubben @eobet @Tieguaili @Andrekling @GloveZilla @Wolf for their feedback!
  • 2.0.7 - 13 Mar 2024 - Allow moving root and disconnected bones in POSE mode. Also bugfix: don't alter parents and siblings of disconnected bones when moving them. Thanks @jessica @GloveZilla for their suggestion!
  • 2.0.7 - 12 Mar 2024 - Show the cursor and bones under a mesh, when editing in the POSE mode.
  • 2.0.7 - 12 Mar 2024 - Insert animation keyframes automatically when objects, curve points and bones (in Pose mode) are grabbed and moved. Thanks @GloveZilla for their experiments and feedback!
  • 2.0.7 - 11 Mar 2024 - Initial support for drawing annotations using the Pen tool. Thanks @Andrekling for their suggestion!
  • 2.0.6 - 8 Mar 2024 - Fix a bug which prevented the user from zooming in/out of the scene in VR when "sync viewport" was enabled. Thanks @GloveZilla for reporting this.
  • 2.0.6 - 8 Mar 2024 - Minor UI tweaks - stop the mouse cursor on the intersected object, instead of passing through them. Show a small reticle when the mouse intersects with an object.
  • 2.0.6 - 8 Mar 2024 - Added a Strict Viewport Sync setting to remove the viewport offset applied in order to display a laser pointer for the mouse.
  • 2.0.5 - 1 Mar 2024 - See a preview of the active camera at all times, by enabling the View Camera gizmo from the main menu. This preview will automatically switch to the grabbed camera (when moving a camera), otherwise it will display the preview from the active camera.
  • 2.0.5 - 28 Feb 2024 - Show a preview of the grabbed camera, from the perspective of the camera. This helps you adjust the camera based on what the camera is seeing.
